Botarium: Urban gardening

Botarium is a window greenhouse for use in urban environments with minimal outdoor space. Botarium features a shape memory alloy, which contracts as temperatures rise, allowing automatic adjustments to ventilation creating an ideal growth environment for plants.

When form reflects function

Having an adaptable system was the key element for designing an urban gardening system. Several adjustable forms were explored in order to make sure the piece could fit in multiple windows.

Gardening For Everyone

Botarium allows any user in an urban environment to provide the perfect temperature for growing plant life. The use of a muscle wire (a shape memory alloy) and its ability to contract with heat as much as 5% and open a ventilation flap, Botarium is always at an ideal temperature for proper plant growth.
